Approach

Our major objectives:

- To encourage the children and women so that they should attract for taking education and to develop their social, cultural as well as economical aspects.

- To establish various Vocational Education Centres for providing education in Tailoring, Fashion Designing, Computer, Handicraft, Art Works, etc. to the weaker section

- To organise various workshops such as phenyl making, agarbatti making, perfume making, candle making, etc. so that the housewives can do small-sized manufacturing during their spare of time., etc

To ensure success of the envisaged project :

The main occupation among the communities within the targeted area includes the labour work, the income from which is not at all sufficient to meet even their basic necessities and at the same time they are also being exploited by their owners/supervisors. Due to lack of availability of appropriate skill development initiatives within the targeted area, the community women take up domestic cleaning and cooking work or become roadside vegetable vendors. Moreover, majority of the these communities, particularly women are illiterate and they give very low importance to education and even engage their children along in order to earn an extra income. At the same time, women are also expected to look after their families. Adolescent girls are often abstained from pursuing education and undergoin professional trainings and are usually forced to marriage at a very early age.

As a result, the targeted areas have remained highly backward in terms of socio-economic development. In view of above, there is an urgent need to promote appropriate skill development opportunities among the targeted communities especially women so that an alternative source of income can be made available for them thereby ensuring food and livelihood security.

In the current intervention, the willing and unemployed community women and men, within the targeted urban slum areas of the district, shall be facilitated with effective skill development trainings on various courses like Fabric Painting, Tailoring, Hand Embroidery, Cloth Dyeing and preparation of domestic products. Further, they will also be made aware about the effective institutional linkages with reference to the above training programs in order to ensure post project sustainability. Workshops on health care will also be held during the course of the training among the beneficiaries and their children.

To ensure Sustainability of the project :

Community women are one of the most influential groups of the society. Thus, their socioeconomic empowerment is one of the major sectors for achieving the overall development of a particular area. But in the targeted area, due to ignorance towards education, the majority of community women are uneducated hence, unemployed and are normally engaged in the agricultural activities or remain engaged in fulfilling family responsibilities. Also, many youth who are normally willing to pursue higher studies or some professional courses, are not able to do so due to financial constraints and appropriate opportunities for skill development trainings within the area. Therefore, the capacities of community women in the area remain untapped.

In view of the above, there is an urgent need to change the mindset of the slum communities and make them realize the importance of education and employment for women for the overall socio-economic development of an area. Promoting appropriate skill development activities among the community women shall help them earn an income for themselves which will empower them economically as well as socially. Empowering the community women shall improve their status in the society by providing them recognition and respect. Since the women are the most powerful groups of any society, empowering them would mean empowering the whole society, both socially and economically.

The various workshops and exposure visits will encourage the beneficiaries to explore employment opportunities and become creative with ideas and broaden their perceptions. As the willing and unemployed community women and men, within the targeted urban slum areas of the district be facilitated with effective skill development trainings on various courses like Fabric Painting, Tailoring, Hand Embroidery, Cloth Dyeing and preparation of domestic products, they will understand about the effective institutional linkages with reference to the above training programs. Accordingly, they will remain cordial with our NGO which will help us to ensure Sustainability of the project. Workshops on health care will also be held during the course of the training among the beneficiaries and their children.
